Founder's Day
Clarendon Prep was opened in 1962 and we celebrate Founder’s Day at the beginning of May. At this birthday celebration, a guest speaker comes to talk to us and tells us how lucky we are to be at such a splendid school. We light birthday candles on a beautiful cake and we especially enjoy the speeches from our ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ from the Clarendon and Selborne schools. The boy from Selborne College always blows us all a big kiss!
School Sports Houses
When we first come to Clarendon, we are given a House. These are: Gittins (yellow), Hunter (blue) and Ketchen (red). We can win house marks for doing well in our lessons and for playing sport.
One of the best house days is when we have inter-house cross-country, hockey and netball. The house captains dress up in their house colour and make banners and sing songs to cheer on their team!
Each house celebrates their House Day with a special assembly and cake sale. A guest speaker represents a selected charity, and the takings from the cake sale are donated to them.
The School Play
The school play is just amazing! Each of us from Grade 1 – 3 have a part in the show and because it is such a big event, we try to hold one every two years.
Even the little Preppies in Grade 0 put on a show for their parents each year.
Family Days
At the start of the year we hold a braai for the Grade 0 families and a picnic for the Grade 1 familes.
During the first term we join with Clarendon Primary and Selborne Primary to hold our annual Children’s Day fundraiser to raise awareness of underprivileged children.
In the third term we have a Games Day where every class is involved in our fundraiser, which offers something for the entire family and is enjoyed by all.
The most valued people in our lives are our families and at Clarendon we love to spoil our moms, dads and grandparents at special assemblies.
The PTA organizes family events during the year, which bring families together whilst raising funds for the school.
We participate in swop days with our brother school Selborne where there is plenty of fun, laughter and team building happening.
Final Assembly / Merit Awards
A special assembly is held at the end of each term. If we work extremely hard, our teacher might choose us to collect a merit pencil in the assembly! This makes us feel so proud of ourselves. At the end of the year, the big grade 3 girls each receive a certificate to say how well they have done at the Prep and some girls even win special trophies, before they move onto Clarendon Primary School.
